A suspected electricity meter thief operating around Yelwa was apprehended by the district head of Wuro Chekke and handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for further investigation.

The suspect, identified as Dagana Micah, 30, of Wuro Chekke, was traced by the customers who noticed that their meters (Conlog meter no 04280576879 and 04280589153) were missing and followed the footprints under the pole to his house.

According to the district head, Micah confessed that he was not the one who stole the meters, but he bought them from another man named Bravo, who also lived in Wuro Chekke.

Micah said he then sold the meters to Ibrahim Ajebo, a dealer in Jimeta on Hospital Road.

Other suspects connected to the meter theft were later apprehended through the combined effort of the community and vigilantes and also taken to the NSCDC custody.

The NSCDC focal person said that the suspects would be charged to court after the completion of the investigation.

The Yelwa Business Unit Manager, Ibrahim Labbo condemned the act of meter theft and urged the customers to report any suspicious activities around their meters and YEDC installations to the authorities.
